Haha, nice :)
According to bits and crumbles of information I found, the actual assembling seem to be happening in Europe, though the components are the coming from various sources, including China and (mostly) US.
I definitely see your point, though in my eyes, having phone designed in Poland and assembled in Europe is infinitely times better than an iPhone, which is designed in US, and assembled in China in extremely unclear work conditions, or Xiaomi which is 100% China. Especially if it is a product prioritizing conscious usage.
Good to hear that at least it's assembled in Europe.
The "Fairphone" (as far as I can tell) is completely made in China, where an ever more autocratic regime jails workers who try to organize independent unions to protect workers' rights.
Wow, I was really sure Fairphone is assembled in Europe.
It seems they did think carefully about which supplier they chose.
But at the end of the day, any niceness on the part of the company is completely dependent on the whims of management and the much-less developed labour laws in place, as labour is not allowed to organize to defend its own interests.
One of my clients is an HR director at an electronics manufacturer in China, and from talking regularly with her, even when management are inclined to be nice to workers, there are so many things that would simply never be allowed in Europe which are daily practice in China.
That looks pretty cool. If I were to buy a new phone, I'd probably go for something like that too. I only need navigation/music player/calls+sms.
would be curious to get your feedback after you start using it :)
Very interesting, Iโd love to hear your opinion about it after using it for a month or so
When you receive it - would you mind checking if it has a hotspot mode?
It does according to their forum: https://forum.mudita.com/t/mudita-kompakt-support-for-hot-spotting-tethering/7601
It is using Android as a base OS, my guess is it should have it out of the box.
Do you know if there's a way to sideload android apps? It's an awesome concept but without some apps like spotify and a browser I'd end up carrying two devices. I know it wouldn't be super convenient to browse the web on an e ink display but I need to at least have the option.
The answer is โyesโ, according to this video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xMxH0usC7Ew
That's fantastic, thanks for letting us know and I'd also be interested in some more feefback down the line!
But it also has some zen detox bullshit on its website so they may have disabled access to this functionality.
