The handheld will be available in two different models and four colourways:

  • Ice Blue
  • Black
  • GC (an obvious nod to the Nintendo GameCube)
  • 16-Bit US (a reference to the Super Nintendo's US design)

There are two separate models, each featuring a different SoC:

  • First model: Snapdragon 865 SoC (from the Retroid Pocket Mini and Pocket 5)
  • Second model: MediaTek D1100 SoC (from the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro)

Both models share the following specs:

  • A 5.5” 1080p AMOLED screen
  • 8GB Low Power DDR4X RAM
  • 128 GB Universal Flash Storage
  • Android 13 OS

However, differences exist:

  • The Snapdragon SoC model offers faster charging speed
  • The D1100 SoC model uses a newer version of Bluetooth

GoRetroid has stated that pricing details and pre-order dates will be announced soon.

What do you think of these specs?

I don’t see much point on a folding device of that size if it doesn’t have a second screen, seems like lot of space wasted.

It also protects the screen.

I know Retroid are kind of the more "affordable" option, but after my RP3+ broke from just regular use and cheap parts, and them not helping me because of discontinued support for the device, I don't really want to spend more money on them. At this point I'd probably rather save for a steamdeck, despite it being huge and clunky. Retroids recent items are just ugly as well, IMO.

I found the RP5 to be fairly visually unappealing, but I've been interested in a handheld that's powerful and capable of running linux. So that glacier flip is looking fairly exciting!

Seems typical for Retroid.

The Snapdragon 865 offers good bang for the buck in the RP5, so it’ll probably be similarly cost-effective in this form factor.

I don’t personally see the appeal in a widescreen clamshell, since you get so much empty space in the middle. But if it’s your thing, this will probably be a great option.

It at least fixes a common complaint with the RP5, which is the position of the thumbsticks.

I don't see the point of this when there's this, which includes a bottom screen. It seems like a major missed opportunity.
