For what it's worth. I suspect fed-run relays have sped up the Tor network substantially. I'm really mostly using it to avoid commercial tracking and passive dragnet so it doesn't really bother me...

man, the gradient and drop shadow really improve the experience over posting the excerpt In plain text.

Nostr isn't part of the Fediverse? It's not even federated.

[–] iopq@lemmy.world 18 points 21 hours ago

Correct, it's decentralized. I don't even care about my Nostr relays. I am well aware of my home server, especially when it starts returning some kind of errors

[–] haverholm@kbin.earth 14 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Pffft, no. The fediverse does just fine without blockchain nonsense.

[–] iopq@lemmy.world 11 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Nostr doesn't use a blockchain

[–] haverholm@kbin.earth 12 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

You're technically right, although it does come with lightning/bitcoin integration — and a userbase of primarily cryptobros supplying the nonsense part.

I think tipping people for posts is really cool, though. They had a doge tip bot on reddit, but it didn't actually integrate with the network, so apparently when it shut down the owner of the bot just stole everyone's tips

Crypto is all about shilling bags or criminal activity.

[–] coldsideofyourpillow@lemmy.cafe 8 points 22 hours ago

): unfortunate for the ones that actually want to use it as an anonymous currency

[–] iopq@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago

There are non-crypto posts on Nostr

https://nostr.org/

Interesting but mostly occupied by cryptobros (also where exploding-heads went)

[–] Dark_Arc@social.packetloss.gg 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah... Just looked over stuff and it's pretty cringe...

[–] fxomt@lemm.ee 4 points 19 hours ago

SHITCOIN IS GOING UP BY 0.0000001% 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Most of it feels like it's occupied by bots lmao. Also "GM Nostr" every day???

[–] leraje@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Nostr is where everyone who secretly admires Musk/Trump/Zuck goes.

[–] sexual_tomato@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 21 hours ago

Shame, because on its face, I thought it was a really interesting technology that solved an underlying infrastructure problem in the fediverse's makeup.
