Seems more suitable for serious photographers than the casual audience from Instagram, but it might be worth it promoting it as well.

Invitation code... Yet no instruction on how to get one.

Reach out to @mczachurski@mastodon.social, the developer.

Pixelfed user numbers seem to rise a lot: https://discuss.tchncs.de/post/28627765

Didn’t they make a Pixelfed app? Is this different, or are they just tarting their own server with their app?

At first, it was only an app for PixelFed. But AFAIK, the developer got tired of waiting Daniel to implement some needed improvements on PixelFed's API and decided to create his own backend.

Interesting. I’ll keep an eye on it, but I do wonder if more serious photographers looking to move from IG will feel overwhelmed. First, they need to choose to go to the fediverse over something like Flickr, Foto.app, or Vero. Then, not only will they need to wrap their heads around how the fediverse works, but then also pick a platform and instance, all while leaving behind potentially thousands of followers on IG.

I think we’re hitting a point where the fediverse will be like GNU/Linux. Lots of potential, but too fragmented to get past more than a niche user base with specific priorities.
