Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced Wednesday that he’s delaying by five years a ban on new gas and diesel cars that had been due to take effect in 2030, watering down climate goals that he said imposed “unacceptable costs” on ordinary people.

The move angered green groups, opposition politicians and large chunks of U.K. industry, but was welcomed by some in the governing Conservative Party who chafe at the expense of ending reliance on fossil fuels.

At a news conference Sunak said he was moving the deadline for buying new gasoline and diesel cars from 2030 to 2035, and also delaying a ban on new new natural-gas home heating that had been due in 2035.

Fuck this guy. Companies are lagging so far behind as it is, changing the goalposts for the sake of greed will wreck any momentum they were begrudgingly working towards.

Ya, because ordinary people obviously won’t bear any “unacceptable costs” when their fire-damaged disaster shelters are washed out into the flooded streets. But hey, at least the floodwaters will evaporate pretty quickly in the 45 degree December heat.

What! The guy with ties to oil money is propping up the oil industry momentarily by damaging the planet long term! Anyway...

“unacceptable costs” on ordinary people.

This is the key part, he thinks that the rich are ordinary and anyone with less than 1 Millon in the bank are sub human pond scum.
