I heard back today the university job I interviewed for want to move on to references. This is the interview where I had all the technical problems, and they still want to progress.

The salary sacrificed ebike dream is becoming more of a reality

I know this comment may make history as the most downvoted ever, not just in this thread but the whole of Lemmy, and could possibly result in my expulsion from this community and even the internet as a whole, but...

I actually don't mind this weather.

There. I said it.

Have at me, beaches.

Look, it's fine, but I'm going into a job interview soon and my hair is a frizzy mess. It's not projecting the most professional image. But oh well, I can't fix it.

Well damn. Roofer is coming tomorrow but I can’t be home so have to let the LL in handle it.

Burnt all my days that I can take off for the year and wasn’t prepared to take leave without pay.

Less than ideal situation but got to do it.

Can get such a good deal on two pairs of glasses at Specsavers right now, including a pair of polarised prescription sunglasses, but their range is either tack and el cheapo, or obscenely priced for what it is. I'm thinking my gorgeous features deserve better?

So I opened up at work to some people how bad things have been with some higher ups, part of my stress is coming from work and how powerless I am to control a situation that was related to yesterday afternoon.

There was agreement in place to mitigate and manage the situation but that didn't work yesterday and I was subjected to a lot of stress even with the aid of someone with me.

I had to make it clear that I need to be supported at work because inevitably the root cause of the problem is coming from work and they need to support me better because it's coming from work, I don't believe that I should be seeking external help when the problem is actually coming from work.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Asking mean people to not be mean

and getting help from within a system that enables mean people

usually does not work.

But asking politely for it to stop and for help is a very important psychological step, this is so you can tell yourself you went through all the right steps, you tried and you are not to blame for the abuse.

Next step is getting outside help and planning to leave, leave to another job in your own time. You don't get a medal for having no income.

I think Catch accidentally doubled up and gave me twice the amount of dishwashing tablets. I guess I don't need to order anymore for like 2 years now

I watched a documentary on Netflix called That Sugar Film. Basically the creator ate "healthy" processed foods for 60 days. He put on around 10kg. It was very interesting to watch.

In office today I'm sitting next to someone relatively new (different team).

She had a fairly strong Russian accent and even a polite and innocent sentence sounds like a threat.

So what is the first song you remember? Mine is The Beatles, Twist and Shout. I must have been about two and a half, maybe younger. I remember the joy of it.

Can't forget Puff The Magic Dragon by Peter Paul & Mary as a first sing along at primary school.

For some reason they played time warp at my kindy before nap time. I used to dread the end of the song... everyone falls down and stops dead

Now it's one of my favorites, because I have the context of Rocky Horror and adulthood.

I'm convinced that the kindy was run by people who wanted to torment small children.

FΓΌr Elise or the Blue Danube I think, they were in a kid's fairytale audiobook CD (not tape!) that got very heavy rotation. The Blue Danube used to come at the middle/intermission of a story that always gave me very ominous, anxious feelings and to this day I can't think of it as a magnificent, stately song reminiscent of a big flowing river, just a sense that the baddies are around the corner. I think we had some tapes of The Carpenters (Top of the World was definitely pre-primary).

I don't remember anything earlier aside from your usual kids clapping songs etc.

Okay, okay, I must brave Ikea and Kmart today... I am gonna go, and not glue myself to this couch...

E: ikea done, damn i have to say they have some hypnotic VGM style Muzak, I felt like I was floating in some special waiting room dream... now to brave tacky Kmart

E2: kmart done but how in the fuck is every single one out of simple, basic S hooks?! No, not with a flat top, round so I can hook my pots and pans onto this weird metal bracket hanging from the wall in the micro kitchen. I'm loathe to drive all the way to northland just for these but also don't want to wait for delivery..

I managed to snag one of those white Steam Decks as a graduation present for my girlfriend. They're a nice little unit, Valve really made sure to give them that premium feel like an Apple product

I'm starting to think my house plants are ramping up the humidity in this joint. Did a bit of mucking around in the kitchen and organised the spices but there's still a way to go with pantry items. Can't think of a logical layout. Forgot to get little step ladder as I'll absolutely need that in this place.

For now though, I'm calling it a night, been breathing shallowly for some reason and yawning hugely/feeling light-headed the past hour. I've pulled 9.5 hours yesterday and 9 hours today at work to make up for last week, excluding 30 mins lunch; still need an extra 30 minutes tomorrow. And then so much uni work on Thursday. zzzzz....

First world problem #475358: seems not all microfibre cloths are created equal. I bought some new ones but they are hydrophobic and not very good at picking up dirt. Annoying. Lesson learnt, I’ll be having a feel of them in the shops before buying new ones to see if I can find ones with similar texture to my older set.

Working in the garden in this humidity has turned me into a soggy mess. It's not actually raining which is probably good - the weeding I did yesterday was in light rain, which was soggy but cooler. Hopefully I get the remaining plants in before any storms come over this afternoon - it is great for the plants to have lots of water after planting though, so the timing is great in that regard.

I'm hoping I haven't gotten any sunburn - I thought I replaced the sunscreen in my toiletry bag last year, but apparently not. I went to put some on, found it had completely separated, and when I checked the date it expired in 2016. Oops. At least I have my hat.

yay, my watercolour practice book is here. I don't care if it's harry potter, it has good instructions, good paper and it looks fun πŸ™‚

Lightning show due north of the city - heading due south according to windy.com. No rain as yet, and no thunder audible. Aaaaand it's fizzled out. Again. I'm disappointed.
