Interesting, I am 40 and I probably use too many gifs. They are such a convenient shorthand for sometimes complicated/opposing feelings. Wild to me that a 42 year old wouldn’t be able to comprehend that. I’ve been using the internet/cell phones to communicate with friends since my late teens so maybe that’s it.

i know people older who also use tons of gifs. it’s very normalized for millennials and some gen x. i think this dude is a luddite.

Idk. I love gifs. They do express complex emotions and they're fun.

A few years ago, I got talking to a woman about 30 years older than me through Tinder. It was great, at first, but then she started sending me essentially Facebook memes at random times instead of initiating a convo. Put me off so much that I suggested we stop talking. Still wish it hadn't happened that way but Jesus fuckin Christ lol

The Facebook memes were the conversation starters, you should have sent Lemmy memes back.

Ah but I don't want to have a meme conversation tbh otherwise I would've!
