Well, I guess first I'm going to see what HRT does for me before I consider surgery. I know it cant help my bone structure, but I usually don't let people under my skin and muscles anyways.

You know that later Mae Dean comic where she's talking to her doctor and her goal is "this, but girl?" That's my objective. Make my body feel right.

Also, stop looking in the mirror. Stop taking selfies.

Just be. Take a week, breathe, and exist without worrying how "girly you look," or w/e.

Stop being so hyper critical of yourself. I get it, okay? People keep telling me they love my energy, or I have a great smile. I can read between the lines. But that's just it tho. If you emit positivity, people will want to be around that. Stop hating yourself cuz you don't look like Kate Upton. Neither do I. Surely you don't think I should hate myself too?

I dunno, I just think I get enough hate from my own mother and brother, and myself in the form of my depression, that I don't like engaging it. I understand and acknowledge my depression. And I try to separate the depression bullshit from myself.

Ya, I have dysphoria. I hate myself. But if all I do is reflect on that, nothing gets done and I hate myself more. You may not feel you love yourself, but goddammit, try.

I was able to access FFS, but only because I transitioned late in life and was able to spend my superannuation (something like 401K for those in the US)

If given the choice between FFS, or transitioning at your age, I'd choose to have transitioned at your age.

That gives me lots of hope. I thought I was starting too late at ~31.

No such thing as too late. There is later than we would have liked, but even that isn't too late :)

FFS means Facial Feminization Surgery, for anyone who hasn't heard of that acronym.

[–] answer42@programming.dev 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Thank you. Why do people use acronyms everywhere, without any context ?

[–] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because this isn't without context. It's a commonly recognised term in the trans community, used by a trans person speaking to other trans folk.

Of course, not all trans folk know the term even then, but still, the vast majority of people this question is intended for will understand the term

Ok, I saw this post while browsing Lemmy, I didn't realise this was posted on a trans community. Still wouldn't hurt if people didn't expect all TLAs to be universally known, and maybe add the meaning in their first use

Lazy writing I guess. Or maybe after doing so much research, the writer used the acronym so much that she forgot what it stands for.

I'm just never going to stop wearing a mask, I guess...

are you eligible for any kind of healthcare or state healthcare that may cover FFS?

Do you wear makeup? You can do a lot with contouring and bronzing. I can link a bunch of reccs tomorrow if you'd like. I know it's not the same but you truly can reshape your facial structure with a simple contour kit and some blush.

[–] skymtf@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 year ago

My state bans all trans healthcare coverage and employers have to pay fees on trans healthcare coverage to incentivize employers not covering it.

same. im just focusing on what is currently in reach like hair removal and hormones and also hiding my face more than I should

[–] anothercatgirl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I avoid FFS not because I can't afford, but because I don't think the pain and stress of getting a surgery there is worth the change in appearance. My planned alternative is kigurumi.

If you are in the US look into the Crane Center. They not only help you figure out what you can get but have payment plans.
