Missed opportunity to hover this in formation over the penthouse of an oil exec saying “this piece of shit doesn’t care if your children starve”.

Manhattan is geographically tiny. Technically, they hovered it over several oil executives’ penthouses, although, perhaps, not intentionally.

Starving seems like such a slow and distant thing, I'm not sure it packs the right punch, but "[...], burn, drown or get shot fighting their wars" is a bit long

Looks pretty cool, it's interesting to see how fast drones have developed in the last 10 years

When is it happening? Not seeing the date in the link.

I feel like having a thousand drones offers some more direct opportunities to combating client change than a light show.

“They didn’t suck my dick, so I hate it”

Some people simply cannot appreciate anything.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you figure out how to make drones suck a dick I can think of a few even better ways to combat climate change.

If I find out how to make 1000 drones suck my dick, ya never fucking gonna hear from me again, L O L

I don't get it, what's to appreciate here? They bought a thousand plastic drones from China with a thousand disposable lithium ion batteries that are bad for the environment, and had them shipped over on a cargo megaship that spews smog into the atmosphere. They're utilizing a bunch of things that have fucked the environment to do a little light show to "raise awareness" over a city that is already full of people that don't need to be convinced that climate change is a problem.

“I’m going to forget recycling exists and assume the worst to perpetuate OP’s nihilism while shitting on a nice display of environmental solidarity”

And I suppose you posted this comment on a piece of locally-sourced tree bark powered by love?

[–] PeachMan@lemmy.one 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Plastic recyling is absolute nonsense. And crappy drone batteries RARELY get recycled in reality. And recycling shouldn't be the first thing you think of: REDUCE, RE-USE, RECYCLE. There's a reason it's third in the list, it's the least important and effective tool.

I'm just trying to be realistic rather than participating in pointless virtue signaling.

“i’m being overly reductive and cynical while participating in pointless virtue signaling”

Yeah, we got it. PS: these drones aren’t single use only

LOL is that the only thing you know how to do? Just put your own bullshit in quotes and act like somebody actually said that? Sounds stupid and pointless, but maybe fun. Let me try:

"I can't deal when somebody criticizes a dumb article about a dumb light show that I posted, so I'll be overly defensive, make up nonsense, and put words in others' mouths that they didn't say. Goo goo ga ga, etc."

Boring.
