Some of the world’s largest companies have been accused of undermining democracy across the world by financially backing far-right political movements, funding and exacerbating the climate crisis, and violating trade union rights and human rights in a report published on Monday by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).

Amazon, Tesla, Meta, ExxonMobil, Blackstone, Vanguard and Glencore are the corporations included in the report. The companies’ lobbying arms are attempting to shape global policy at the United Nations Summit of the Future in New York City on 22 and 23 September.

Deeply confused, because these are all American companies and America is supposed to be the freest, bestest, most democratic country in the world.

well it kind of is, for large companies

I know you're being ironic but it makes only sense they're American. If they weren't, some US court would've torpedoed them to bits with lawsuits and tarifs like they always do. They love that stupid foreign money but don't hurt their own American darlings for doing the same harm to everyone.

Examples? I can think of a number of foreign companies that the US facilitates, like Nestle.

The most blatant examples in recent years are Monsanto and the Diesel scandal. Monsanto was an untouchable force until they got essentially taken over and now it rains lawsuits to extract stupid german money from them. US courts wouldn't be so willing to make them pay in a million years if they still were American.

Same with the Diesel scandal really, though the hypocrisy is even more obvious here. Again, stupid german money. American car makers that did the exact same thing? Slap on the wrist at best.

Miele tarifs under Trump? Well here he just feared superior quality, really. They didn't even do anything.

And now we're seeing the same treatment with foreign tech companies. The American government wants to block TikTok or at least be in full control of it but can't really do so without looking like big fat hypocrites. And now other countries wonder if they should block Facebook, Google and Xitter for the same reason. They threaten democracy and our freedom.

More like: big money and corporate lobbying is ruining democracy. These are just the big boys.

No shit. But I guess this is good for those that are missing the obvious to read.

Confused it's Tesla and not X (aka Twitter)

And the Guardian being complicit in Azeri propaganda and thus genocide is not.

It's funny, it sometimes seems as if people from all those nations complicit in Artsakh's occupation thought that unlike Palestine or Ukraine it's just normal and they can behave as if nothing happened and it's OK.

More than that, those funny people seem to think it's impolite to bring up.

Facebook definitely is.

My post on the weekend telling people where I was travelling to ensure if I disappeared they'd know where to find me for deleted for cybersecurity reasons

Yet, I regularly report abuse, bullying, porn, etc and the AI moderation never sees any issues

And every single post there now is:

Lol 😂 Newline newline new line

Repost repost..I am an obvious bot. Often I am a stupid car meme mocking EVs and solar, etc

I've been told in the past you shouldn't make public posts with your travel plans. You're broadcasting that thieves can break in to your house and clean it out without worrying when you'll be back.

Just tell your friends/family directly

I have housemates. And cameras and dogs.. But you're normally right
