I've seen like 3 in my area this year. A few years ago they were EVERYWHERE. Hopefully whatever measures are being taken are working.

I have a friend who does forestry for an electric company. He just ran into his first lantern flys in central Ohio yesterday. Fun times ahead

Tell him to swing his foot down at an angle from the front of the bastard. They jump very quickly, but nearly always forward. If you do it right, they'll jump right into your foot and get smashed. Also if you miss, they take about a second to re-situate their wings before they're ready to jump again. If you're fast you can smash em then.
