You know what I miss about iPods and older style mp3 players? Nobody interrupted my music with their bullshit.

These days every notification tries to pull you away from your music and honestly that sucks. When I’m driving and I want to belt out the croaky renditions of my favorite songs, nobody else’s bullshit should be able to take me away from that moment.

Everyone should try disabling ALL notifications and then working their way up to understand which alerts are worth getting interrupted for. Everything you do on your phone ends up becoming more intentional and your battery life goes up too because your screen isn't constantly getting turned on from the barrage of notifications. To date, I only have 1 notification turned on and it's when my significant other messages me.

My phone has been on DnD for over a year now. I have a (cheap) smart watch which vibrates on certain alerts like message, calendar, and phone and I can quickly glance and see that it's something I don't care about. I also ignore the calls from numbers not in my contacts if I notice them. In the time I've been doing this I don't think a single person has left a message on my voicemail - validating my actions.

It's so nice to feel like tech isn't running your life anymore. If I'm in an app doing something, it's because I made the choice to do it. I still gotta work on that doom scrolling tho, YouTube being the biggest culprit. I think I might try setting some time limits.
