If they think repairs can get another 30 years out of it, it's probably a good return on investment. The article says it's usually at capacity during morning rush hour but that traffic growth isn't expected there anytime soon. Hopefully within 30 years mass transit in the city will have improved enough that expansion into 4 lanes may not even be necessary. (Not gonna hold my breath in that though.)

I'm torn. On the one hand, I agree...but it's also the kind of approach that's driven us into a nightmare of crumbling infrastructure.

I definitely wouldn't hold my breath on an expansion not becoming necessary, even though I wouldn't call it a major bridge.

Valid point. The city isn't generally known for foresight (with the exception of the floodway, but if I recall correctly that was the province's doing).
