Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

My god, the man is insane. And people are talking about how unfit Biden is because he mixes up world leaders and dates?

[–] thisorthatorwhatever@lemmy.world 117 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Interesting to learn so much about how Fascism works, because of Trump. Making crazy statements, as a type of blind loyalty test is instinctual for fascist leaders. Alienates his followers from normal people, forces them to believe in even crazier things.

I would prefer to learn this in a theoretical, not practical, way, thank you very much.

[–] maynarkh@feddit.nl 31 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yep, it's like toxicology, learning by doing is not advised.

And yet, here we are :(

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago

And this time around it's even easy to isolate yourself in an information bubble that completely reinforces your beliefs. Social media is a godsend for fascists.

[–] iltoroargento@lemmy.sdf.org 27 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Which, tbh, are already confusing for someone who hasn't been in the game for decades on end.

I guess I am unfit for office because I forget everyone's name about 3 minutes after they tell me. If I haven't met you several times I am just never remembering your name.

My wife took me to a going away party for one of her co-workers where I literally only knew her (obviously) and the neurosurgeon she works for. She introduced me to like 30 people over the course of the evening then would ask days/weeks later "do you remember so and so?" I forgot their names they moment we moved on, lol.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Literally reason #1 why I haven't run for (local) political office, despite seriously considering it.

Meanwhile Trump has never even heard of these people or what happened on those dates...

Instead we get classics like this from the certified genius ..

"Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV. See how smart I am, not many people can remember 5 things.."

and

"that dementia test was quite challenging but I passed it, not many other people would be smart enough to pass it"

If he loses again, what is to stop him trying again in 2028?

Atherosclerosis?

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I mean, the republican party loves losers, so that would just solidify another run imo. As long as they also take all of their money, and tell them everything is ok.

[–] hglman@lemmy.ml 13 points 9 months ago (1 children)

He is very vaguely suggesting the Dems will purge all connections to the past. It's a calculated talking point. He isn't insane or stupid; he is evil.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 13 points 9 months ago (2 children)

It sounds insane and stupid, so I'm not sure that matters.

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

It sounds scary, because it's ridiculous, and yet people believe it anyway. They will believe anything he tells them, and that is very very scary.

[–] hglman@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

You couldn't be more off base. The worst thing to do is to keep dismissing Trump as "stupid." What possible reason could you have for underestimating him and the rest of the conservative party, especially in their capacity for evil?

[–] limelight79@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago

He's a useful idiot. I think Trump has no brains of his own, but he just absorbs whatever he is told by people who are evil and regurgitates it.

[–] pupbiru@aussie.zone 4 points 9 months ago

dijon mustard anyone?
