IIRC it's mainly used for search and rescue.

Truly lol. AFAIK Cold Lake is the main 'combat' airbase.

True, though it doesn't base F18s for this kind of mission.

CFB Comox is the RCAF's primary air defence installation on Canada's Pacific coast and serves as the home base for maritime patrol / anti-submarine aircraft and search and rescue (SAR) aircraft, both fixed-wing and rotary-wing .

I was mainly responding to the claim that there's no base, but I really don't see the value in stationing a combat squadron there.

In the case of an actual foreign invasion, there would be enough time to redeploy from elsewhere.
