For the purposes of this community, "retro" means platforms launched in 2001 and earlier, and games for those platforms released through roughly 2007. This means that the Xbox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, and PlayStation 2 are the cutoff consoles.

Something that plays up to the PS1 and N64?

How about the RG351M or RG351MP?

...and why?

What environment to run on it? RetroArch? RetroArch wrapped into something?

I'm a big fan of finding neat homebrew games for retro consoles. I have an ongoing list I keep of my favorites for various systems on my gemini capsule if anyone else enjoys this kind of stuff.

I linked to a web proxy so it's easy to view from here but the actual gemini address is below.

I love the classics, but I REALLY love the feeling of discovering something that feels a little more hidden or delving down someone's absolute favorite game that they don't get to talk about with many people.

I don't have many to throw in the discussion, Lost Kingdom 2 for Gamecube is unique and I don't hear it get brought up /too/ often. What are your hidden gems? :o

This can be extended to promotional art too. The one that immediately jumps out in my mind is Final Fantasy Tactics Advance because of the absolutely stunning color contrast it has going on. Doom's is also just iconic. Lots of really great art out there and I'd love to hear others' opinions on their favorites!
