Librewolf is great, but now some stupid sites require chromium-based browsers to work. E.g: Microsoft teams.

• Ungoogled chromium? problem is that it's worse in fingerprinting compared to Brave. See: https://privacytests.org/
• Brave: bloated and filled with unnecessary features.

Why isn't there a Brave fork yet that gets rid of the crypto junk?

Linux has now hit 3% according to sat counter. It isn't has obscure as it was in the past and I think it is a lot less of a privacy risk.

I also know a significant number of Linux users who use librewolf. This means that the user share might be a bit higher

@librewolf what will librewolf do with all the new Firefox drama?

Is this also present on Librewolf? Or is it removed?

I don't like someone having remote control over what I'm using, and this seems to have some of it, according to Bug 1832791 - Add to AMRemoteSettings support for quarantinedDomains RemoteSettings entries.

If not removed completely, perhaps it can be a default config option on Librewolf, taking advantage on the opt-out made available through extensions.quarantinedDomains.enabled.

I don't know the implications on "security" by opting out, but for sure I don't want any of my chosen privacy extensions to be shut down for any specific site, even if it's not monitored by FF or whatever. Also, who decides what's insecure for which sites? Is there a Librewolf say about this "feature"?

More about it from Firefox 115 can silently remotely disable my extension on any site.

Two issues were filed about this (already closed), Should allowing FF remote control over extensions (restricted ones) be disabled by default on Librewolf , and some work before v115, which are fixed on 115.0.1-2, through commit 2c561ca85dbf791d83da41ffab829afca8b19323, but not yet fixed on 115.0.1-1...

I am a new user to Librewolf and am curious about the community's thoughts on DNS over HTTPS in the browser.

I tried disabling uBlock (although it's not blocking anything), but once I click "log in" the icon keeps spinning. I try from Brave and it works with no problems

I remember even a post for a firejail + apparmor suggestion, and the post about https://jeremmy.ml (which BTW seems down, and https://lemmy.ml/c/librewolf@jeremmy.ml leaves the subscription as pending, I guess it's down).

The more recent posts I see are really old I believe.

I am a long-time user of LibreWolf, and I'm currently running Debian 11 "Bullseye". A new major version, Debian 12 "Bookworm", is due to be released on the 10th.

However, on the website, I have noticed that the only supported versions of Debian are bullseye and sid. I have also checked the repo itself, and found no mention of bookworm.

Will there be a repo for bookworm? If so, when? And is it safe to remain on the bullseye repo while running bookworm?

EDIT: Flatpak and AppImage are viable alternatives for me, but I'd prefer to use apt.

Looking into @librewolf and using the portable version on Windows but noticed it does not have #uBlock plugin like the full installer does.

I also cant reach the addons website for #firefox to install it either.

Is this intentional for the portable version? #librewolf

do you know how to get touch screen gestures like two-finger-scrolling working on Linux? Its working fine on Firefox but probably disabled in Wolf due to potential privacy (sensor-detecting) issues? Could it be (re)activated with some config tweaks?

Fedora 38, Kernel 6.3.3 tried both X11 and Wayland Lenovo Yoga 9 14IRP8

If you want to use a web browser on reasonable secure way, you could use firejail:

It's not as powerful as @qubesos but it's well enough:

Eg.I run @librewolf with firejail using firefox profile:

firejail --x11=xephyr --xephyr-screen=1024x900 --net=wlan0 --seccomp --caps.drop=all --nonewprivs --noroot --profile=/etc/firejail/firefox.profile openbox --startup "librewolf"

I see this a few seconds after I try to open a link. It started happening all of a sudden a couple of days ago.

I tried setting GDK_BACKEND=wayland through Flatseal but that didn't help.

I'm using version 112.0-1 from Flatpak on GNOME Wayland. Any help is appreciated. TIA.

When I click on a link (in an email) I get this pop-up error message

Close Firefox. Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To use Firefox, you must first close the exiting Firefox process, restrt your device, or use a different Profile.

I do have Librewolf (in Settings) as my Default browser and have removed Firefox from my software lists. It would seem that the links are thinking that Librewolf IS Firefox? When I click on Librewolf Support (in its settings) I end up at a page on Mozilla for Firefox. Any thoughts/suggestions? [I am currently using Zorin OS]

It seems interesting that "Clear URLs" might clean URLs of tracking pieces on the URLs. Is that something covered by other extensions, particularly by uBlock Origin?

For LibreWolf + uBlockOrigin users might seem unnecessary, but when sharing URLs with others, who one is not aware what browsers they use, then perhaps it's useful. What do you think?

To update Librewolf on a mac I am using homebrew (because it seems like the obvious choice for an application with no build in update mechanism). This however means that every time I complete an update macOS gatekeeper interrupts my workflow an asks me to go to the settings to reapprove Librewolf again. I am curious if there are any good workarounds for that.

BTW I have tried installing using the --no-quarantine flag provided by homebrew but this flag does not change behavior when using brew upgrade.

hello! as you might have noticed I haven't been able to post the changelog lately, so I figured I'd write a news thread:

• as usual we released a new LW version for each FF stable.
• I just added a bunch of documentation entries, most notably:
  • accessibility and why you might want to disable it, even though we don't by default.
  • how to use KeePassXC when you install both it and LibreWolf as Flatpak.
  • how to install uBO if you're in a country where the addons store is blocked.
  • full list.
• WebRTC should work a bit better now, you should experience less breakage.
• we maintained our usual set of patches across each release.
• this epic contains a bunch of solved issue we have been ironing out during the past few release cycles.
• in the next release we finally expect to fix the weird new tab issue on linux and the unresponsive window issue on macos; this was possible thanks to a contributor from the community who found a typo in one of our patches :-)
• there's a known issue with Firefox Sync logins.
